About Us

Linguist List is the global goto for the academic linguistics community. It began in 1990 with an electronic mailing list and a few dozen subscribers. Now 36 years later, Linguist List is a worldwide community of over 127k subscribers and followers. It is owned by the eLinguistics Foundation, a U.S. 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and its daily operations are funded through job posts, a supporting publisher model, and donations from users.

Mission

The eLinguistics Foundation (ELF) is organized to operate exclusively for charitable purposes, including but not limited to:

  1. Supporting the discipline of linguistics
  2. Supporting initiatives and enhancement of the digital infrastructure in the field of linguistics
  3. Supporting research in linguistics and language technology
  4. Supporting the development of standards and promotion of best practices for the creation and preservation of digital language media
  5. Supporting students of linguistics and their training in language technologies.

Vision

The eLinguistics Foundation is an organization whose aim is to encourage the construction of infrastructure for the discipline of linguistics, and to provide financial aid to such efforts.

Linguist List conducts the daily and long-term operational activities of ELF with the oversight of the eLinguistics Foundation and in accord with the overall purpose of the Foundation.

Linguistic Fieldwork Support Grants

Proposals for grants in support of linguistic fieldwork should include:

Projects may be 6 to 18 months in duration. Proposals may be for up to $6000. Application deadline: 31 March 2026. Applications should be sent to [email protected].
